Overview

What it is and who it is for

The Edwards 3-IDC8/4 is an EST3 local rail module that links the control panel to conventional hardwired circuits. It provides eight supervised Class B circuits, and up to four of them can be converted to notification appliance circuits (NACs).

Input circuits accept normally open contact devices and traditional two-wire smoke detectors, with up to 30 photoelectric or 50 ionization detectors per circuit, and can be set latching or non-latching, verified or non-verified. NAC pairs deliver 24 VDC from the local rail or a riser, including one regulated 1 A NAC from the 3-PPS, or speaker risers up to 70 Vrms at 100 W. Standby current is 48 mA and alarm current is 408 mA at 24 VDC, and terminals take 18 to 12 AWG wire.

The module occupies one local rail space, any control display module can mount in front of it, and it cannot mount behind the 4-FT Fire Fighter Master Handset. Listings for EST3 use are UL, ULC, FM, LPCB and EN 54, with NYC Fire Department COA 6314.

  • Best for: bringing conventional initiating zones and extra NACs onto an EST3 panel.
  • System fit: EST3 (UL, ULC, FM) and EST4 (UL, ULC) local rail; 3-PPS for the regulated NAC.
  • Important to know: installation, wiring and programming must be done by a qualified fire alarm technician per local code and the EST3 installation manual.
