Overview

What it is and who it is for

The Edwards 4-NET-TP is a small, hot-pluggable SFP network controller that gives an EST4 panel a twisted pair copper connection for panel-to-panel network wiring. It plugs into either of the two SFP slots on a 4-CPU, 4-ANNCPU, 4-CPUGRPH or 4-NET-AD and carries network data, voice audio, firefighters' telephone and pre-recorded messages on one twisted pair at 2 Mbps.

On one twisted pair with at least six twists per foot it supports 16 to 24 AWG wire, up to 5,000 ft (1,524 m) between any two nodes, 0.09 µF maximum circuit capacitance and 90 ohms maximum circuit resistance, drawing 32 mA at 24 VDC. On CAT 5e or better cable it supports 22 to 24 AWG at 45 mA. Wiring lands on a push-in, self-clamping terminal block, and the controller operates from 32 to 120°F (0 to 49°C) at 0 to 93% noncondensing humidity.

The 4-NET Series supports Class B, A, X and N network configurations with IPv6 autoconfiguration, and a failsafe pass-through connects the input and output ports directly if the host CPU goes offline. The 4-NET-TP is for panel-to-panel communication only; connections to external networks go through 4-FWAL Series adapters.

  • Best for: EST4 panel-to-panel networks on twisted pair copper, including reuse of existing network cabling.
  • System fit: SFP slots on the Edwards EST4 4-CPU, 4-ANNCPU, 4-CPUGRPH and 4-NET-AD.
  • Important to know: panel-to-panel use only, external connections need a 4-FWAL Series adapter; installation must be done by a qualified fire alarm technician per local code.

Why teams choose it

Built for fire alarm systems

  • One pair for everything

network data, voice audio, firefighters' telephone and pre-recorded messages share a single twisted pair.

  • Long copper runs

up to 5,000 ft (1,524 m) between any two nodes on twisted pair.

  • Stays connected

failsafe pass-through links the input and output ports if the host CPU goes offline.

  • Hot pluggable

SFP format fits either slot on the 4-CPU, 4-ANNCPU, 4-CPUGRPH or 4-NET-AD.
