What it is and who it is for

The MikroTik CRS312-4C+8XG-RM is a rackmount Cloud Router Switch with eight 10G RJ45 Ethernet ports and four combo ports that take either a 10G RJ45 cable or an SFP+ module. The RJ45 ports run at 1G, 2.5G, 5G and 10G. It dual boots RouterOS v7 (license level 5) or SwitchOS.

In MikroTik RFC 2544 tests the Marvell 98DX8212 switch chip reaches 240 Gbps Layer 1 switching capacity and 120 Gbps Layer 1 throughput, with 178.6 Mpps at 64-byte packets. Two AC inputs at 100 to 240 V provide power redundancy, the unit draws up to 60 W and uses four fans, and it is tested for -30 to 70 °C ambient.

A 10/100 Ethernet port, an RJ45 serial console and a USB Type-A port support management. The box includes two IEC cords, rack ears and a K-57 kit.

  • Best for: networks that need multi-gigabit and 10G links over copper, with SFP+ options on four combo ports.
  • System fit: MikroTik RouterOS v7 (license level 5) or SwitchOS, with RJ45 serial console and a 10/100 Ethernet port for management.
  • Important to know: CPU routing is far below switching speed (about 452 Mbps fast path at 1518-byte packets); SFP+ modules are not included.
