Overview

What it is and who it is for

The MikroTik RB450Gx4 is a bare-board Gigabit Ethernet router designed for professional network deployments requiring flexible power input, hardware-accelerated encryption, and a compact, enclosure-agnostic form factor. Driven by a quad-core ARM-based IPQ-4019 processor running at 716 MHz and backed by 1 GB of RAM, the RB450Gx4 delivers the processing headroom needed for demanding routing, firewall, and bandwidth-management workloads. Five Gigabit Ethernet ports provide ample connectivity for edge, branch, or embedded network builds, while broad 10–57 V DC input support—accepted via dual DC jacks or 802.3af/at PoE-in—allows deployment in environments where clean power is not guaranteed. The board also outputs passive PoE on Ethernet port five, enabling it to power a downstream device without a separate injector. On-board hardware IPsec acceleration offloads encryption from the CPU, maintaining throughput for secured tunnels. RouterOS Level 5 is pre-licensed, giving administrators access to advanced routing protocols, traffic shaping, firewall, and VPN features. The form factor is physically compatible with enclosures designed for the earlier RB850 and RB450 series, simplifying retrofits and standardized rack or DIN deployments.

Key features & benefits

  • Quad-Core ARM Processing — The IPQ-4019 CPU with four cores running at 716 MHz provides the multi-threaded processing capacity required for complex routing tables, stateful firewall rules, and simultaneous VPN sessions without saturating a single core.
  • Hardware IPsec Acceleration — Dedicated hardware IPsec encryption offloads cryptographic operations from the main CPU, preserving routing performance even when multiple encrypted tunnels are active.
  • Flexible Wide-Range Power Input — Accepts 10–57 V DC via two independent DC jacks or 12–57 V via 802.3af/at PoE-in, allowing deployment across a wide variety of power environments including solar, battery, and standard PoE infrastructure.
  • Passive PoE Output on Port 5 — Port five can supply passive PoE output, allowing the RB450Gx4 to directly power a compatible downstream device and reducing cabling complexity at the edge.
  • 1 GB RAM and Layered Storage — One gigabyte of RAM supports large routing tables and concurrent connections, while 2 MB of Flash and 512 MB of NAND provide tiered storage for the operating system, logs, and configuration files. A microSD slot adds further expansion.
  • RouterOS Level 5 License Included — The pre-installed RouterOS Level 5 license unlocks advanced features including dynamic routing protocols, traffic queuing, hotspot, and VPN, making the device immediately production-ready without additional software costs.
  • Enclosure-Compatible Form Factor — The 90 × 115 mm board dimensions match the earlier RB850 and RB450 series, enabling direct reuse of existing enclosures and simplifying fleet standardization or hardware refreshes.
  • Serial and microSD Expansion — An RS232 serial port provides out-of-band console access for headless management, while the microSD slot supports additional storage for logging, packages, or backup configurations.
