About Baofeng

The most widely sold value-tier radio in North America.

Baofeng has become the most widely sold value-tier two-way radio brand in North America, with the UV-5R series alone reaching multiple millions of units sold to licensed amateur radio operators, GMRS users, emergency communications volunteers, and personal users. The portfolio covers dual-band (VHF and UHF) handhelds at a price point that has democratized access to two-way radio for new operators, amateur radio clubs, CERT and ARES teams, and family GMRS deployments.

EhubAmerica stocks the most-requested Baofeng SKUs in our Doral, FL warehouse: the UV-5R series (UV-5R, UV-5R Plus, BF-F8HP for higher-power amateur use), the UV-9G (FCC Part 95 GMRS certified), the BF-888S, and the newer K5 series, along with programming cables, replacement antennas (including popular Nagoya upgrades), batteries, and accessories. Our team can guide buyers through FCC licensing requirements and provide CHIRP programming support.

Important FCC compliance note: Baofeng's UV-5R series is FCC certified for Part 97 amateur radio use only and requires an amateur radio license. Baofeng's UV-9G is the proper choice for FCC Part 95 GMRS use (which requires a GMRS license, easily obtained without testing). For commercial Part 90 land mobile radio deployments where business use requires Part 90 certified equipment, we recommend Motorola, Hytera, Kenwood, or Icom commercial lines instead. Our engineering desk can help match the right brand to the legal use case.

Product lines we stock

Our active Baofeng catalog sorts into three practical categories. Amateur radio (Part 97) UV-5R, UV-5R Plus, BF-F8HP, UV-82, K5 for licensed amateur operators. GMRS (Part 95) UV-9G for FCC Part 95 GMRS users (family communications, off-road, recreational). Programming and accessories programming cables, batteries, Nagoya replacement antennas, speaker mics, chargers, and earpieces.

Do you stock Baofeng radios in Miami?

Yes. We stock the UV-5R series (UV-5R, UV-5R Plus, BF-F8HP), the UV-9G GMRS, the BF-888S, the K5 series, programming cables, batteries, and a range of Nagoya replacement antennas (NA-771, NA-771G, etc.). Most in-stock orders ship same-day when placed before 2 PM ET.

What is the difference between UV-5R and UV-9G?

The UV-5R is FCC Part 97 certified for amateur (ham) radio use only and requires an amateur radio license. The UV-9G is FCC Part 95 certified for GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) use and requires a GMRS license (no test, paid one-time fee). The radios cover similar frequency ranges but have different transmit privileges based on their certification. Choose based on which license you have or plan to obtain.

Do I need an FCC license to use Baofeng radios?

Yes for transmit. Amateur radio Part 97 (UV-5R, BF-F8HP, UV-82, K5) requires an amateur radio license (Technician class is the entry level, no Morse code required, multiple choice test). GMRS Part 95 (UV-9G) requires a GMRS license (no test, paid fee via FCC, covers your immediate family). Operating without the appropriate license can result in FCC fines. Listen-only use does not require a license.

Can Baofeng radios be used for commercial business operations?

No, not legally. Baofeng's UV-5R series and most current models are FCC Part 97 amateur certified, which prohibits commercial business communications. The UV-9G is Part 95 GMRS, which is for personal and family use, not commercial. For commercial Part 90 business deployments (security companies, hospitality, fleet operations), Part 90 certified radios are required. We recommend Motorola CLS, Motorola CP, Hytera, Kenwood ProTalk, or Icom IC-F commercial lines for those use cases. Our team can quote appropriate alternatives.

Do Baofeng radios work with CHIRP?

Yes for most current Baofeng models. CHIRP is free open-source software that supports UV-5R, UV-5R Plus, BF-F8HP, UV-82, UV-9G, and most other dual-band Baofeng radios. The K5 series uses different software. Our team can pre-program your radio with the channels, repeater offsets, CTCSS tones, and DCS codes you need, or sell you a programming cable for self-programming.

What is the Baofeng RMA process at EhubAmerica?

Send the unit with a brief problem description and the original order or invoice reference. We issue replacement within 48 hours of receipt for units under warranty (typically 12 months from purchase). Defective-on-arrival units are replaced without the standard RMA paperwork delay. Out-of-warranty units are not typically repaired given the unit cost; replacement is the practical path.
