Ubiquiti ETH-SP-G2 Ethernet Surge Protector Gen2 for Outdoor PoE Networks
The Ubiquiti ETH-SP-G2 is a compact Ethernet surge protector designed to help protect outdoor network devices from damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD) and surge events. Built for outdoor Ethernet, PoE, WISP, airMAX, UISP, IP camera, and remote network installations, it adds an extra layer of protection between exposed equipment and the indoor network.
The ETH-SP-G2 supports 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet connections and is engineered for both PoE and non-PoE devices. With two passive, surge-protected RJ45 female connectors, it is easy to install inline between outdoor equipment and network infrastructure.
For best protection in outdoor deployments, Ubiquiti recommends installing surge protection near the outdoor device and again near the building entry point, with proper grounding. This helps reduce the risk of ESD and surge damage reaching switches, routers, gateways, injectors, or other network hardware inside the building.

Outdoor Ethernet and PoE Protection
Outdoor Ethernet runs are exposed to electrical surges, static discharge, and nearby lightning-related events. The ETH-SP-G2 is designed to absorb and discharge surge energy safely to ground, helping protect connected radios, cameras, switches, routers, and PoE equipment.
Ideal for WISP and airMAX Installations
The ETH-SP-G2 is commonly used in WISP customer-premises installations, airMAX links, outdoor access point deployments, and building entry points. It is especially useful when Ethernet cabling runs outdoors or connects equipment mounted on poles, towers, rooftops, or exterior walls.
Simple Inline Installation
Installation is straightforward: mount the ETH-SP-G2 near the protected device or cable entry point, connect the Ethernet cables, and properly ground the unit. Without grounding, surge protection is mostly decorative optimism, and the universe does not reward that.
